An overwhelming majority of the newly elected Bar Council are in favour of the re-introduction of the rank of Queens Counsel. Representing the states barristers, this indicates a dissatisfaction with the former Bar Councils wish to keep the clearly unsatisfactory rank of Senior Counsel. This was introduced by the Fahey Liberal government, without consultation or a mandate, and in anticipation of a republic.
