An unexpected bit of catch-up socializing today. Bumped into Linda while scouting for fresh DVDs at the library. Shed driven over from Waverly Shores for some kind of womens thing about essential oils or whatever...which on the surface (no pun intended) makes no sense for someone like her. We agreed to take a lunch together and talk over old times from UM, and she volunteered to help me get Chapter Seven of Zephyr unstuck. Apparently shes been climbing the walls (all she has to do is rub herself on the carpet) ever since the holidays, because Janet didnt come home for Christmas this year...she was offered a two-week gig at Disney World playing Elastigirl from The Incredibles, only a two-hour drive from the Cape. And her little brother prefers to spend all his time with Jim. Anyway, while Lin was in the presentation room, I ducked into the Childrens Department and added Le Ballon Rouge to my bag, since it seemed like a good conversation starter and Id never seen it. Big mistake. Id forgot that I dont get French films (still trying to figure out Amelie and I find Mr. Hulot about as funny as late Jerry Lewis...like Rowan Atkinson, only pointless). And when we got back together, I found out that this was one of her least favorite movies (see below). So we did the Gelsosomos Lunch Buffet (gotta love the Combo 2, even though its still weird to watch her chow down). Then we went to her house to watch the movie, which she (understandably detests for the violent ending where the boys stomp the balloon to death. I could only wonder out loud what it was supposed to mean when the boy floated away with all the other balloons, and she offered to let me try it this summer. The boys werent home, so we went over the files Id stored online and found some real clangers...Ive never been able to proofread my own work, and the neuropathy doesnt help. A couple of awkward moments when the wind at the lakeshore came up and I had to chase her down the driveway in her not-quite-heavy-enough coat. Gotta wonder after watching the National Geographic Travelers Guide to the Planets if Janet is ever going to be slated for a Mars mission. But, of course, I didnt say that to Linda.
