An unfair boss, annoying neighbor, a challenging childhood, a long drive to work, lots of traffic, cold weather, obnoxious mother in law, challenging project due, difficult patient, high-spirited student, challenge controlling weight, disagreements on money, forgot an item in the drive-through line, Cold coffee, cavity. My friends this is a partial list of some of the challenges that many of us will face today. Although all of them are legitimate adversities, I met a gentleman last night that puts those challenges into perspective. Speaking to a group of wounded warriors, I met a man who came up to me afterwards, hugged me tightly and began sobbing. He shared that two days before his deployment to Afghanistan, his wife and daughter wanted to surprise him with a visit. On the way, their car was hit by drunk driver. This gentleman lost both his wife of five years and his daughter of three years. And then deployed for two tours. He shared with me the unfathomable grief and how for the past several years hes been wrestling with if he wants to die. But after being with fellow men and women that he served with, going through this process of recovery, hearing different leaders share their stories, last night he said that he was ready to start living again. My friends, regardless of the challenge or tragedy of the day, choose to come alive again. Dont let the darkness of this world bring you down. There is reason for hope. Fight on. The best is yet to come. J
