Ana Tijoux: I think I’ve been extremely, extremely ignorant about feminism. I’ve always been reluctant, let’s say. From my most profound ignorance, I felt like feminism was really sectarian. Reading Gabriela Mistral, reading Rosa Luxemburg, learning also about Simone de Beauvoir, a ton of women writers, was like a slap in the face, you know? How had I been so ignorant? In what moment did I miss out on all this amazing information from these women writers? And also realizing that I never really saw any of this in school or in my education. And well, also that I’m a mother, I’m a woman, and obviously I felt super identified with a ton of the issues these women brought up, you know. Yo creo que he sido extremadamente, extremadamente ignorante sobre el feminismo. Siempre era bien reacia, digamos. Desde mi más profunda ignorancia, sentía que era muy sectario el feminismo. Leyendo Gabriela Mistral, leyendo Rosa Luxemburgo, aprendiendo también de Simone de Beauvoir (¿?), de un montón de escritoras, fue como una cachetada en la cara, ¿no? ¿Cómo fui tan ignorante? ¿En que momento me perdí toda esta información maravillosa de escritoras? Y también de darme cuenta que nunca lo vi realmente en el colegio ni en mi educación.
