Anambra 2014: Action Plan of Dr. Chike Obidigbo Jp (Osisioma Anambra) as Governor. Anambra State, Still A Work in Progress to Greatness! We duly appreciate and salute all past democratically elected governors of Anambra State comprising His Excellencies, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife (Okwadike), Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju (Odera), Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige (Onwa), and the incumbent Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, (Okwute)., Each of them performed, or is still performing to the best of the ability given and received. Each to his element. Each with his conscience. However, it is evident that Anambra State remains a work in progress to greatness. Anambra State is still challenged by numerous problems; social, economic, political, security of lives and property, youth unemployment, food security, medical, educational, manpower development, and the current mass movement of labour and capital away from our state. These challenges some of which require urgent attention must be quickly resolved for us to move forward peacefully and happily, in a safe and secure environment. A noble feature of the democratic system is its compulsory requirement of periodic and peaceful change of baton in leadership. Therefore, as the search for the next governor of Anambra State begins, it will be in the best overall interest of Ndi Anambra, (especially in the interest of our youths and children), to examine carefully all the governorship aspirants/contestants. We should focus on the durable and general good of the state as we decide. This should be done without any form of parochial sentiment or self-interest. A lot will always depend on the leadership we choose for ourselves! We need people with pedigree, people with clean track record, and proven ability to perform. Our Vision For Anambra State is centered on: Economic Development and Youth Empowerment; We will pursue an urgent economic renaissance that must encourage the private sector to co-operate with the public sector and contribute towards shaping the future, and stimulating the growth of our economy. Deliverables: Education/Knowledge Expansion; *Enhance qualitative education through reward mechanism and closer monitoring of academic institutions. *Institute continuous training and capacity building seminars for civil servants. *Pay great attention to higher education through constant infrastructure uplift. *Encourage skill acquisition through providing more support for technical/vocational schools. *Promote local arts/crafts as a means of encouraging the informal sector. Youth Empowerment; *The youths will remain the cardinal focus of our efforts to grow and develop our economy. As leaders of our tomorrow, they must be properly “packaged” today. *We will therefore, work towards an Economic Diversification that must create mass employment, reduce youth idleness, restiveness, and put more bread on the tables of families. Agriculture/Agro-Allied Industries/Food Security, to center on; *Encouragement of mechanized agriculture to feed our growing population. It should be noted that, Anambra has vast arable land stretching from Awka North, to Anambra East & West, Ayamelum, Orumba North & South, Oyi, Aguata, and Ihiala axes, that could be cultivated, no more with hoes and matchetes, but with simple machines some of which could be fabricated by our home grown technologists. *Value addition will be introduced to encourage farmers. *Aqua culture would be developed in areas with water bodies, like Ogbaru, Onitsha and Anambra East. *Agriculture could make the difference as witnessed during the late Dr. Michael Okpara’s, regime, when Eastern Nigeria was described as one of the fastest growing economies in the sub region. Commerce/Industry; *Stimulation of manufacturing by supporting entrepreneurs to create many more jobs and goods for local consumption and even for export. *Pursuit of carefully structured shift of emphasis to be directed at Industrialization, development of critical infrastructure, and Manpower. *Dovetailing Anambra’s leadership in Commerce/Trading into the domestic industrial mix to enhance economic prosperity of the State as the citadel of great trading people. *Reactivation of Industrial Estates in the State, especially Awka, and providing needed support for Onitsha Industrial Harbour and Nnewi Industrial formations. *Reformation of the apprenticeship scheme and mentoring. Also, to seriously develop skills acquisition to provide quality artisans. To bring back the dignity in labour, and inculcate the right attitude to work into our youths. *Providing serious encouragement for private sector participation in the provision of energy as the major driver of industrialization, *Provide support to companies that show capacity to set up plants like, the Century Group at Okija, and Geometrics Power, Alaoji, and ensure that the state-backed power generation comes on stream fast. Living Well; As much as we will devote much attention to Quality Education, Youth Empowerment, Agriculture, Industrialization and Commerce, we will still take care of other vital sectors as Urban Development, Transport, Tourism, Maintenance, Health and Good Living. We will take urgent measures that will encourage our people elsewhere to Think Home, Return Home and Join Hands with us to Develop our Home State. Ndi Anambra All over the world transparency in governance, issue-based politics with value addition are now being seriously pursued. Thurgery, Gangsterism, Politics of money, Greed and Selfishness, Tendency to loot, Exploitation of the vulnerable and already disenfranchised youths should seriously be discouraged and stopped for us to move our state, and the people forward. Every time we miss and abuse the opportunity to enthrone the correct persons into positions of leadership, we mortgage the future of our children, including those yet unborn. Last Word As a renowned Industrialist, Administrator, Academic, and Philanthropist, my life and pursuits have always revolved around uplifting people. My confidence to lead Anambra radiates from my possession of needed knowledge, experience, expertise, entrepreneurial and intellectual capacity to build, consolidate on, and expand existing foundations, and to fast track the socio economic growth and development of Anambra State. The government I promise Ndi Anambra will be collective and inclusive, with no desire to appropriate the wishes of the people or supplant their rights to happiness. I will step in as a servant, not a master; As a leader, not a ruler. May God prosper His will for His people of Anambra State through me in Jesus Name, Amen.
