Anambra Poll: El-Rufai to Challenge his Restriction in Court ARTICLE | NOVEMBER 18, 2013 - 9:49AM | BY UGOCHUKWU ONYEOCHA Former minister of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that he will go to court over his restriction to his hotel room during the Anambra governorship election thereby depriving him from monitoring the election process. Mallam El-Rufai is the deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress. He was not allowed to monitor the election on the basis that he was a security threat and was not accredited by the electoral commission to monitor the election. “There are many officials of the party that came for official duties and they were allowed to go out except me, El-Rufai said. “I don’t know what is threatening about El-Rufai. Anywhere there is an election I have the right to be there,” he claimed. He said he would go to court on Monday to seek redress over infringement on his right to movement. “Unless you are saying that Anambra State is not part of Nigeria and that as a Nigerian I do not have the right to move to any part of the country. Somebody will have to explain to me why a Nigerian will be forcefully imprisoned for 23 hours without cause. “If my presence violates any law, I should be arrested and taken to court. That is how a Civilized society operates,”he stated. The governor of the State, Peter Obi, insisted that El-Rufai had no business being in Anambra State during the election. “I cannot go to Katsina or wherever he comes from on the day of election, Governor Obi declared. “He should stay in his state,” he stressed. “What is he doing here?” he questioned. The governor described the state as the most important state in the nation having the highest concentration of entrepreneurs therefore making it a must win for every party
