Anambra State Government through the office of Special Assistant to Governor Peter Obi on Youth Mobilization, Hon Nduka Alor has organized a three-day programme for Anambra Youths aims at training them on various entrepreneurship skills. The empowerment training which has the theme: “Skill Acquisition: a tool for the making of a Great State” was attended by over 500 youths who were selected from the 21 local government areas of the state. The participants were trained on various skills which include inter: skill acquisition on fish and poultry farming, capacity building training on financial management and saving culture, information and communication technology, making a career in clearing and forward of goods, and how to develop local business plans and feasibility study for soft credit facilities.” Daily Times learnt that between N100,000-N500,000.00) will be given to the first batch of the trainees as an initial take off grant on submission of the business plan and feasibility study to the office of the S.A. to the Governor on youth mobilization, Hon Nduka Alor. Addressing the participants, the Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi said that the programme is in fulfilment of his promise to the youths and his commitment to building a better society for the youths of the state. Governor: Obi who was represented at the programme by the Commissioner for youths and Sports, Dr. Edozie Aroh said that his government is committed to youth development, empowerment and discipline and as well facilitate the empowerment and development of Anambra Youth through collective responsibility, trainings, seminars, and political engagements in the interest of the youths and the Anambra State Government.” On his part, Hon. Nduka Alor commended the youths for their comportment during the three day training and extolled Governor Peter Obi for approving such rich youth oriented programme gears toward engaging the youths meaningfully. He explained that the participants will be screened after submitting their business plan and feasibility study. Said he: “over 500 youths attended the programme but 300 will be empowered in the 1st batch. It is no longer cheque issuance as usual. After screening them, they will be empowered in less than two weeks. This time we shall monitor it 70 percent to ensure that nobody diverts the money. The amount we will release to each of them will depend on the feasibility study but you know that in small scale business, N100,000 - N200,000 big money” Hon. Alor therefore advised the youths to take adequate advantage of the training by exploiting every aspect of the exercise by working with what they will be given rather than diverting it.
