Anatomy of an artwork... 4 images from conception to near completion! 1. 2 months ago a week was given to documenting seed motifs from Ancient Greece to the present. 2. Week 2 work began in the first of 3 large paintings 3. Week 3 I started layering in detail then put this work aside to begin the next 4. last night was another of many long sessions working on this 1m x 2m piece. Ive listened to hours of National Radio, watched countless ABC Iview programs and am nearly at the end of the 6th series of the West Wing produced 2001-06(?). Its been a marathon but one Ive relished for the most part! It contains hours of thinking and is imbued with every ounce of energy and thought passing through this studio over the past two months... the question that wont leave me though Is why are we mucking around with our planets future... If we really want continuity of human life, the natural and cultural inheritance of the planet... Then why are we living as if its the same world it was 25 years ago when climate change was barely heard of by most? This art work celebrates the diversity of global seed inheritance... it begs the question of what each of us can do differently now. For starters perhaps we could pay attention to the invaluable work of Seed & Plant conservation during this National Science Week across this continent.
