Ancient Chinese Proverb: “If we do not change our direction we - TopicsExpress

Ancient Chinese Proverb: “If we do not change our direction we are likely to end up where we are headed.” For the longest time I did not, and could not, see how I played a part in the mess that was my life. I saw myself as a victim. Denial. Yep! Complete denial. I thought that because I had good intentions and because I was compassionate and loving things would turn out the way I wanted them to. It never occurred to me that my good intentions could be the wrong thing to do or that it was enabling. It never occurred to me that my good intention was feeding the problem or that to a degree it maintained it on life support. I had tried everything to change my direction and nothing worked. I was terrified of letting go. There was a disconnect my desire to help and protect and my right to do so - between what I wanted and what was. I just could not see the link between my actions and my consequences. So I kept doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. I could understand that I did not cause it. That I could not control it and that I could not cure it but it never occurred to be that I could enable it to continue with my good intentions. After all my heart was in the right place. I was only trying to help. I was only trying to protect them from their own foolish behavior. It never occurred to me that I was interfering - that God was not on vacation and I was not in charge. One of the hardest things to do was to mind my own business. To take care of my mess and let him take care of his. Finally! Finally! I realized I had to Let Go and Let God be in charge.
