And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!” Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. – Genesis 17:18-19 (NIV) God was telling Abraham that his son Isaac will be the child of promise, but Abraham wanted a blessing on his other son, Ishmael. We are like Abraham in many ways. We plead with God to bless our plans, and then get frustrated when we find out that God has something in mind that is totally different than what we created. Blessed are those who are able to lay down their agendas when they realize God’s agenda, for God works according to His purposes, not ours.
