…And The People Cried Out, “Give Us Barabbas…” 7/15/2013 Does the following story sound familiar? In an ever changing world that is now today desensitized toward the inhumanities of man perpetrated against man, it seems all we hear is “give us Barabbas”. Living in a world where moral virtue surrounded by integrity and steeped in honor are on a fast track to oblivion, because all we seem to recognize is “give us Barabbas”. Each day that we live in virtual tolerance of corruption in high places and irresponsibility wrapped in selfishness and selective blindness, again, all we seem to hear is “give us Barabbas”. When will we as a people begin to wake up, snap out of it and realize we are merely giving ourselves over to a reprobate mind [Romans 1:28] and saving God the trouble of His wasted time. This we do as we continue to leave God out of the equation of our lives meant to be filled with God’s purpose. How long will we continue to hear only the cries of a people confused and tricked by, deceived and kept in bondage by the false hopes, understandings and ulterior motives of their own plea, “give us Barabbas”. There is something to be said about a community, a people, much more a world that refuses to acknowledge the word of the one and only true God (through belief, acceptance and obedience) who’s only desire is to love us and maintain a relationship with us. The gift we receive in return is so much greater than this world could ever offer. And in spite of the known negative circumstances we constantly heap upon ourselves the evils of pain and sufferings through our disobedience. Yet the people still seem to only hear the cry of “give us Barabbas”. Our Heavenly Father God knew that man could never keep the law in it’s entirety and it was for this reason He sent His son Jesus to pay the cost of sin through His blood sacrifice on the cross at Calvary to save all mankind. [kjv Mark 15:7,11,15] 7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection. 11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. 15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified. Any similarities here between our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Trayvon/Zimmerman case are purely co- incidental. However the message is still the same!
