That is so true. Everyone loves when you write something uplifting with a happy ending, but that is so not life. Real life is struggling through the pain and hurt to even appreciate the feeling of happiness. A lot of it is dark but it makes people uncomfortable. I find it hard to comprehend that in music you can write about suicide, betrayal and hurt and it is okay, but if you do the same in poetry, people have a hard time with it. I just write what I feel because that is what is real to me and we do not live in a fairy tale even if you are an eternal optimist.
