“And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. And his brethren envied him…”(Genesis 37 vs 9,11). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional Today. One thing that is evident is the fact that Joseph’s brothers envied him because of his dreams. They were jealous of him. The news of his possible elevation in the future troubled them. They were not happy that their brother was about to be promoted by God. Isn’t it tragic that sometimes, like Joseph’s brothers, we become envious of people because something good has come their way? Sometimes, another man’s good news becomes our platform for envy, jealousy and bitterness. Sometimes, instead of rejoicing on account of their testimonies and good fortune, we become needlessly envious and jealous. Friend, God says, Put away jealousy and envy. It doesn’t do you any good to be angry at someone else’s happiness. It doesn’t do you any good to be sad at another man’s good fortune. THE MERE FACT THAT YOU ARE ANGRY AT SOMEONE ELSE’S GOOD FORTUNE WON’T MAKE IT GO AWAY; EVEN IF YOU REFUSE TO CELEBRATE SUCCESS, IT WON’T CHANGE TO FAILURE. Galatians 5 vs 21 offers an advice against envy, it says “…they which do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God”. Envy won’t prosper you here on earth, and it certainly won’t take you to heaven. Those who know how to sincerely celebrate the success of others have permanently shut the door against envy. Envy corrupts the mind, inspires unnecessary hate and breeds wickedness. Pray with me, “Lord, I discard the spirit of envy; I will not be envious and jealous of another man’s success in Jesus name”.
