And its wrap from the final session of the Taranaki Winter Championships where Swim Rotorua Athletes have plundered the Taranaki treasury! Our senior swimmers led the way with David Boles taking a silver in the open 400IM and William Spear a bronze. Not to be outdone Milla Theobald also raced to a bronze medal in the 400IM girls 13u to follow it up with a silver in the 100 fly. Tara Chemis also bettered her heat time to grab a silver in the 100 fly. Jack Weston face stiff competition in the open 100 breast improving his time from heats to finals and taking a tough bronze medal. Bianca Donnelly took silver in the 200 back and silver again in the 100fr. James Baldwin continued to dominate his age group with a gold in the 100 free and silver in the 100 breast. Paddy Baylis and David Boles renewed their rivalry in the 100 breast reversing their positions in a tightly fought race from heat to finals with David taking a silver and Paddy a bronze - by 0.16secs! David went on to a silver medal in the 200 back. Rachel Mead swam to a bronze in the 100 free and Rebecca Lyall again produced a stellar performance to win silver in the 100free and bronze in the 100 breast. Other notable performances were from Samatha Irving improving in the 100free from heat to final, and Kaira Cox doing likewise. The team of athletes represented Swim Rotorua with pride and raced hard despite travelling for hours and losing an hours sleep. Thanks to them, our coach Alistair, parent helpers and officials and to Taranaki Swim Clubs for making this a most enjoyable and successful weekend.
