And my thought on the matter is that for a while now Ive decided not to give a shit about perceived gender bias. People either buy/read my books or not. The entire publishing industry is so borked at the moment that its not even about talent, but rather about being in the right place at the right time, and knowing the right people. Point is, I have to ask myself, who am I writing my stories for? I think back to that young woman who was bored out of her mind in school, and the older woman whos now bored out of her mind at the office. I write stories to provide entertainment primarily for *myself*. Getting ones voice heard in the absolute clamour created by the instant gratification of ebook publishing, and the sheer, blithering impossibility of getting your books *in print* on a shelf where the average reader might actually purchase a hard copy... If Im not writing to make myself happy, it doesnt matter if Im male or female, or even what my name is, then Im not writing to feed my soul. Oddly, many of my preferred authors *are* women, including Storm Constantine, Robin Hobb, Kate Elliot, CJ Cherryh, Mary Gentle... The list goes on.
