This happened in 2007 but could easily have happened 2 nights ago at the MOBO awards as little if anything has changed!! Omar did actually get nominated in 2011 but Its NOT about individuals wanting recognition its about OUR music being recognized PERIOD!! There are so many artists from the UK who have made and are still making a contribution to soul/r&b/jazz/reggae music that you may or may not have heard of but have fan bases larger than you would believe. Thankfully they continue to make the music and are not put off by exclusion from Awards shows but still i would love to see an award show that acknowledged and gave a platform to all the music out there that TRULY reflected what was going on musically and culturally in our communities right now cos it aint the stuff you hear on the radio or see on the TV!. Most people i know dont even play the radio or watch TV! I love this video cos it shows anyone who knows, knows WHO Omar is, the security, the press, everyone apart from the MOBO crew that is!!! Whats ironic is he was knighted a few years later for his CONTRIBUTION to soul music, Omar MBE meaning even Prince Charles a long time Omar fan who probably hipped the Queen too was up on him Hahahaha! The part that really sweet me bout this video though is when the white lady starts trying to usher Omar off the red carpet and grab the poster, by that time i guess her people were giving her grief on that walkie talkie Hahaha!!
