And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do; I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said to him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be which you have provided? So is he which lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God. - Luke 12:16-20 I remember it as if it were yesterday. My phone rang, and my wife asked me to come home because there had been an attack on the World Trade Center in New York City. I left my office at World Missionary Evangelism and met my wife at home. My wife was quite shaken. We watched TV together and followed the coverage of the events of 9-11. It was hard to comprehend it all, but our world would never be the same again. I read a book several years ago called Our Unsettled Earth. It discussed the most notable changes that have occurred to our earth in recent years. There was an article entitled Our Marks on the Earth - A Million Times Brighter Than the Sun. The article was by Frank D. Drake, Director of the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Drake said: The greatest relative change in our environment and one that goes virtually unnoticed is mans contribution to the radio wave-length radiation field not only of the earth but of the whole solar system. Every space on earth, every room, is filled with radio waves created by man. The strongest of all our transmission systems, the Arecibo radar, if seen from very deep space would be 1016 times brighter than the earth, and a million to a billion times brighter than the sun. This by far is the most conspicuous sign of our civilization to any distant civilization. In other words, Isaiah 30:25-26 could not have been fulfilled before our day and time; and therefore, the day when the towers fall must be no earlier than this day and time. What other towers are known to the entire world and are such symbols of a changing world (symbols signaling the beginning of the final assault on Israel and the Church)? Thirteen years have passed. Today the threat of extremist Islamic terrorism has grown and grown, and it is challenging and frightening governments all over the world. If we cannot see the writing on the wall, it is because we refuse to see it. America has been rich and relaxed, comfortable in its politically dominant position in the world; and all of a sudden, it is being challenged for its very life and culture. As a nation we have stopped being rich toward God, and we have compromised with anti-god and anti-Christian forces. Suddenly, we find ourselves trillions of dollars in debt and owned by foreigners. The only place this strategy will get us is total surrender. However, there is hope and promise in Isaiahs 9-11 scripture. National Journalist Cal Thomas thinks the last hope of America is a revival of religion and a concert of prayer. Even though we are positioned somewhere between decadence and decline on the typical trajectory of empires and great nations, revival and recovery has happened in America before, and by Gods grace it can happen again if we will humble ourselves and pray. Let the memory of 9-11 be a call to prayer and repentance that the Lord may have mercy upon us and deliver us from those who hate Him. - WME
