And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me.” Matthew 28:8-10 (NASB) The women were commanded by the angels to go and tell the disciples. These women became the first messengers of the Good News of Jesus’ resurrection. These women were some of the few people who were courageous enough to publicly identify themselves with Jesus throughout His ordeal. It was an appropriate honor. Appropriately they were the first to meet the risen Jesus on their way to tell His disciples. When they came upon Jesus as they obeyed the command to tell the news of the resurrection, upon unknowingly meeting Jesus their came a peace and joy upon them as He said, “Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me.” Before leaving they came and worshipped at His feet. As they departed from Him their whole thought life had changed from one of despair and being lost thinking Jesus was dead. However, now they knew He was alive and went to seek the disciples with rejoicing and gladness. This is still true today when someone comes to the knowledge and understanding that Jesus is alive and willing to redeem them from a life of sin.
