And this in the end sums of a lot of my transient thoughts in the run up to the election. Some of us have struggled to articulate or reconcile our pragmatic belief in NaMo s abilities with our love for secular India. It did not feel to me that I was voting in a religious extremist party or leader and I genuinely wanted a way to express to those troubled by this BJP win that secular India will probably gain now and it is not the end but perhaps the start of a fresh, chapter for India. because we now begin with accepting diversity rather than tokenism. Now in this article I find many thoughts articulated far better than many of us reasonable Hindus can- those of us who love our Muslim and Christian friends and have studied in Christian run schools - and who think of Hinduism as a way of life rather than my religion that I must defend. And to many of us to whom Indian culture is common and is present in our everyday lives far more then specifics of our own religions. It is not yet time to fear. In the India of tomorrow, I think neighbours and friends will protect one another without a thought to religion or caste. And this is the standard to which I will hold the new Govt.
