Its still done, in this country, to serve the corporate masters of our politicians. Theres nothing to celebrate here, people, not with modern war. I can see memorializing the World War II, when the freedom of America and Europe was last in true danger, but not anything more recent than that. If we were using our troops to prevent genocide more frequently, perhaps. If they were protecting against a credible threat on our borders, absolutely. So, anybody really expecting Canada or Mexico to attack? Or think that Russia or China will send invasion forces to North America? Get real. War is fought so corporations can get access to resources - usually fossil fuels or minerals/metals.
