And we are His portion and He is our prize, Drawn to redemption - TopicsExpress

And we are His portion and He is our prize, Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes, If his grace is an ocean, were all sinking. - David Crowder Band Been struggling internally these days with stress, pressure and turning 30 + 10. I feel as if Ive been sinking into a bit of self-loathing and woe is me and I did not like what I was seeing. But we sang this song on Friday at church and even though weve sang this song numerous times, it really spoke to me. He loves me, Oh how He loves me. We also had a time of both individual and corporate prayer and I cant thank God enough for giving us the place AND space to pray, vent, listen, and yield to Him. And then I went to Hillsong LA on Sunday and couldnt help but smile and soak it all in. Often times when I take our youth kids to an event, Im always conscious of how our students are taking it all in and experiencing the worship or event. But this time, from the minute we waited in line, an hour and half before service, I already knew it was going to be awesome and that the kids would love it. (Actually, it started at King Taco earlier because my carne asada burrito was spot on and they were so generous with the green and red sauce. Sign of good things to come!) And sure enough, I was able to not think of the kids, and just think of myself and let it all pour in so freely. I was sinking into the eternally deep ocean of grace. We sang songs that were new to me yet because the words were so Christ-centered and honoring, they were songs that were so easy to lift up and sing. And then I heard the ever so familiar chords of Oceans, and like a nerdy fan-boy I turned to Steve Ahn and said, their playing Oceans! Yes the key was super high and yes we sang the bridge like a thousand and one times, but man oh man, praise be to our God. Through the songs, through the prayer on Friday and on Sunday, through Carl Lentz and his super hipster pants with holes in them, God spoke to my heart. Even though I could have done without the keyboard playing background music the whole time while he was speaking, and I cringed a few times at the proof-texting and pop-psychology, there was definitely a presence of our God in the house and God was using His servant to reach and minister to the people. I dont know what the oceans to cross look like tonight, tomorrow, this weekend or next month, but Im hoping to be led where my faith is without borders. Ive been in ministry for 19 years, and I love doing what I do, but Im also excited to see the next step and where God leads. Eugene Peterson wrote a wonderful book called A Long Obedience in the Same Direction. That phrase hits home. But same direction for God doesnt always mean the same place. Been learning that more and more. Not sure where all this came from but just a little rambling of whats been on my heart. But I long to be a tree, bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy. He loves us. Oh, how He loves us.
