And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in - TopicsExpress

And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and stay at his house until you leave that city. As you enter the house, give it your greeting. If the house is worthy, give it your blessing of peace. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace. Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet. Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city. Matthew 10:11-15 (NASB) The disciples in addition to be instructed to using their power over unclean spirits and to heal all manner of sicknesses and disease were instructed concerning their personal attire and equipment they should take with them. They were told how they were to greet the people whose home they came to and the message which they were to preach. In addition He told them how to react if they should be rejected in any home or city. He said a blessing would rest on those who received them and a curse upon those who rejected them. What would be the response today, if we responded like this? How many Christians would belittle those who would follow this advice of Jesus? The record concludes with a comment that the disciples went out and preached that men should repent. They cast out many devils and anointed many sick people and healed them. Why did Jesus tell His disciples to shake the dust off their feet if a city or home did not welcome them? Pious Jews often shook the dust from their feet to show their separation from Gentile practices when leaving. If the disciples shook the dust of a Jewish town from their feet, it would show their separation from Jews who rejected the Messiah. This gesture was to show the people that they were making a wrong choice, that the opportunity to choose Christ might not be presented to them again. Are you receptive to teaching from God? If you ignore the Spirit’s prompting, you may not get another chance.
