And yet another great Op-Ed by a great CSD parent, Marnie Brown - TopicsExpress

And yet another great Op-Ed by a great CSD parent, Marnie Brown Conti: My family and I recently moved to Corbett, drawn to the area for many reasons, including the beautiful environment, the rural lifestyle and the exceptional schools. We have felt absolute peace in our choice, despite the many challenges of our first year in this foreign environment. I believe we are in the best place to raise our children and that’s what matters most to us at this point in our lives. After all, their existence is what prompted our move. Given our focus on providing the best environment for our kids, supporting a newer, safer school for them to attend is a no-brainer. In the words of my 10-year-old, “I don’t understand why people would say no.” What she is not aware of, and neither was I, was how deeply emotional this decision is for many residents, stemming from past experiences. I cannot speak to what happened before we moved here and, despite my attempts to understand and learn from history, it is not my place to judge the past actions of others. What I can speak to is the current situation and the fact remains changes are in order. I know change can be scary but, in the words of Albert Einstein, “The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” I was a member of the facilities committee and am an active part of the movement to upgrade our children’s learning environment. I am offended by the lies being spread by the opposition regarding discussions and decisions made at the facilities meetings (which were open to the public.) I’m deeply disturbed by the number of signs that have been destroyed or stolen, signs that were private property on private land. This is clearly vandalism and is punishable by law, not to mention a violation of our right to free speech. What is interesting to note is that when property damage is intended to intimidate a government or a society, it’s called terrorism. I’ll leave that up to the observer to decide in this case. I can say that I’m not alone in feeling intimidated. The driving force behind my involvement in the effort to pass this bond has been the children of Corbett. I believe I am teaching my kids and their peers how to fight for that in which they believe in a legal, moral, respectful and truthful manner. I wonder if those in opposition can say the same… I have so much to say in regards to this issue, but most of it has been said already. I only hope people are hearing it. I never imagined this bond would create such division in the community, and for that, I am saddened. My prayer is that hearts will soften and we will be able to come together with our neighbors in peace and love. But, it will certainly be harder for those of us who have been violated by those very same neighbors.
