Andrew Kishman will be leading worship at Miller Ave next Sunday at 10 am as a candidate for the Mission Minister position. He has just completed his studies for the Master of Divinity degree at Union Theological Seminary in New York in 2 years rather than the normal 3 years. He is a graduate of Grinnell College, a UCC related college in Iowa. He spent 1 years as part of the Episcopal Voluntary Service based at the cathedral of the diocese of Long Beach, CA doing community organizing around housing, economic and gang issues and developed a student group from the Cal State Univ at Long Beach focused around community service and led into ongoing life and spiritual reflection. Along the way he also spent 3 months at a Buddhist monastery in Sri Lanka. During his last year at Union he took additional studies in developing non-profits and using them to sustain urban ministries. He has also written a book on the New Testament with Union professor of NT Dr. Hal Taussig. (Hal was an urban minister in Philadelphia for 15 years in a neighborhood that was able to turn things around for its quality of life during his tenure.)
