Animal Services and Public Works Rescue Kitten in Tree Just a few days ago, Animal Services Officer (ASO) Mandell responded to a call from a family in Irvine who reported their young kitten was suddenly startled and ran up a tree. After multiple attempts to get the kitten down themselves, the family finally asked for the police department’s assistance. ASO Mandell tried to get the kitten down, however could not reach it. She then contacted Irvine’s Public Works department and they quickly sent out Public Work’s employees Drew Burch and LaRon Ferguson to assist. La’Ron used his vehicle’s cherry-picker bucket and was able to reach the kitten high up in the tree, safely returning her to the anxious family waiting below. ASO Mandell made sure the kitten was okay and released it back to the family. Other than the kitten being a little dirty and scared after four hours of being stuck in the tree, it was happy being back in the comfort of the owners. The family and neighbors were very appreciative of ASO Mandell and city employees Drew and La’Ron for their dedication and hard work. Great work everyone! The Irvine Police Department wants to remind you if you ever need non-emergency animal-related assistance, please call us on our non-emergency line at 949-724-7000.
