Animals are animals they attack, that is their nature. four-year-old Houma girl died after she was attacked by her familys pit bull Tuesday night, according to Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis. The chief said Mia Derouen suffered facial and head injuries in the attack before her mother, Megan Touchet, was able to fight off the dog. He said officers who responded shot and killed the dog, which was acting in a very vicious manner. The mother was able to get away from the pit bull and barricade herself in a bedroom where she screamed for help and handed over her 4-year-old child through a window to medical personnel, Duplantis said. The child was taken to Terrebonne General Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. Officers said Touchet also suffered moderate injuries and was hospitalized as well. Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet told WWL-TV the dog was one of two family pets. They had two pit bulls, and one was over 100 pounds, he said. Unfortunately, thats what happened and its such a horrific event. Police said animal control officers removed the second pit bull without incident.
