Animation storyboard artist and voice actor Joe Ranft was hired at Pixar on Oct. 5, 1992. After graduating from high school in 1978, Ranft began studying in the character animation program at the California Institute of the Arts. After two years, Ranfts student film Good Humor caught the attention of Disney animation executives, who offered him a job. During his years at Disney (which included training from Eric Larson - one of Walts Nine Old Men) Ranft did story work on animated features including The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. He died in a car accident on Aug. 16, 2005, but remains one of the industrys most-beloved professionals. Heres a tribute video made by John Musker to his friend, Joseph Henry Ranft.
