Animation word-spew, so hang on a sec... Finally sat down and watched both of the Dreamworks Dragon movies. The second one was definitely visually stunning, and slightly reminiscent of the art and character design of Nausiica or Princess Mononoke. I also like the fact that the main character is probably the first amputee hero in an animated kids film that I can easily recall. As for the criticism, I can see how making the only non-Anglo Saxon in the film the villain would cause some offense, but it almost certainly wasnt intentional. The writers were likely playing to the man from nowhere trope similar to the Dark Knight Joker, and the animating team decided to use another arctic culture (namely, Aleutians, by the look of it) as a contrast to established characters appearance. He was, thankfully, at least a well-written character, if one that could have been handled slightly better. TL;DR - Very good animation in the second one, not quite as good as Kung Fu Panda 2 in terms of characterization or dem feels, and still not quite as good as any Pixar film besides maybe Cars 2 or Up. (Thats right. Up was not good. You know it, I know it. It was over after the first 10 minutes and the rest was just filler.)
