Annis is now getting morphine every four hours. I stayed awake until two AM and tried giving Annis her morphine pain meds with the plastic syringe that comes with the meds. She would not open her mouth nor could I pry it open. I gave up and went to bed, but did not get to sleep until after three. Got up this morning and tried once again--still the same frozen jaw. I decided that I would just spread the medicine over her mouth as it is absorbed through the skin--not the right place, but at least it will help. After the CNA arrived, we put her morning meds ground up in water and used the syringe to get that down into her mouth to where she would not spit it out. They now have Annis laying flat. She has not been awake since about 5:00 PM last evening. Her oxygen intake is now down to the 70-75 range. They would ordinarily have her on oxygen mask once it went below 90.
