Announcements for Saturday, September 13, 2014. 1. August - TopicsExpress

Announcements for Saturday, September 13, 2014. 1. August Attendance. In spite of the fact that Augusts are historically low-attendance months because of gaming conventions, other LARPs, summer vacations and family events, the second game of August had a fantastic player turnout. The Storytellers would like to thank the players for choosing to spend their fourth August Saturday at WbN. 2. October Game. In order to avoid a conflict with Thanksgiving, the first game of October will be held on the first Saturday, rather than the second. The first October game will be Saturday, October 4. The second October game will remain on Saturday, October 25 (and will be the Halloween Ball Noir). The break between games will not lead to an extension on the downtime deadlines. 3. Forums: In-Character and Out of Character. There are some basic rules regarding the forums that the STs would like players to keep in mind. First and foremost, the forums are within the scope of the exact same game you play in at LARP. If youre posting in-character, you are posting as the character you having been playing at WbN games, and as such you need to be mindful of the stats on your character sheet: your characters eloquence (or lack thereof) is defined by your Presence or Manipulation, your Academics or Expression or Persuasion or Subterfuge, etc. Information you reveal IC to other players on the forums is information that they can act upon and use in-game. Scenes that happen on the forums or in the chatroom are assumed to be occurring within the same world your character lives in when at LARP. When posting on the forums, if you are in-character, be clear that you are speaking in-character. If you are out of character, be clear that you are speaking out of character. If you start out IC and switch to OOC, you need to make that obvious, so as to avoid metagaming. If you are posting in the OOC forum, your post is assumed to be out of character. If you are posting in the IC forums, your post is assumed to be in character. The forums are very clearly defined and titled. For the most part there is no reason to post IC information in the OOC forums, but when you are posting in the IC forums and need to convey OOC information, please make certain to make a note beforehand so that other players are aware of the switch (and please try to keep such insertions to a minimum). Additionally, there are a variety of forums to post in, representing different locations within the domain. Some of these are open and accessible to the entire domain; others are open only to those who have been granted access (e.g. the clan and covenant boards). If you are posting in an open area (e.g. Insomniac Cafe or downtown Guelph) it is to be assumed that everyone in the game has access to the information you are sharing in-character. Likewise, if you post on a closed board (e.g. your clan board) it is to be assumed that everyone who has access to that board (e.g. your entire clan) has access to what you are posting. You cannot begin a conversation in an open area and expect it to remain private; if you want privacy, go to the chatroom, exchange messages through the PM system, or shift the conversation to a private location. For the most part the forums and the chatroom are intended for soft RP (i.e. no dice-rolling required). There is a function that will enable you to roll dice on both the forums as well as the chatroom, but if your scenes involve combat or extensive challenges it is probably best if you involve one of the STs. If you are planning on ambushing and/or attacking another PC, you must spend a downtime action to do so; violence that occurs as a result of a private scene (e.g. a frenzy provoked by a thoughtless comment) should be mediated by an ST. If violence or other altercations should occur, it would be best to copy/paste your chatlog and send it to the ST email account, so that they have a written transcript of what transpired. Finally, when you are making an IC post, be mindful of the fact that other PCs do not know what your character is thinking or feeling. You can only post your characters outward presentation, not his innermost thoughts and feelings, nor his motivations, goals and fears or desires. A good rule of thumb is to show, not tell. For example, if your character is getting angry, dont say She was angry. Say she clenched her fists, digging her nails into her palms. Her body was rigid and tense, and her jaw was set in a hard, tight line. Show, dont tell. Dont presume to tell other players how their characters might perceive your character, as you have no way of knowing how perceptive or empathetic their characters might be. 4. Downtimes. Downtime actions are due by midnight on Wednesday, September 17 for bonus XP, and the final deadline is by midnight on Friday, September 19. Downtime actions submitted after the Friday deadline may not be considered.
