Announcements for Wed, Jan. 22nd: There will be an important Cultural Diversity and Spanish Club meeting today after school. Soccer Girls have practice in the Annex Gym today at 3:15. Congratulations to Kaleb Malone, Carson Ludt, Joseph Clancy, and Dustin Arden for making Alabama All State for 2014. This is the highest honor a high school bandsmen can receive and less than 3% of all band students in the State make All State each year. Congratulation to our 2nd quarter Gator Elites: Academics- Laura Logsdon Athletics- Reid Rials Citizenship- Trey Huggins Art- Brandon Dillard This Friday, we will be having a pep rally during seventh period to cheer on our basketball teams in preparation for the home games against Saraland Friday night. The theme for the pep rally will be Ice the Spartans. Bundle up and wear your winter accessories to school on Friday to show your Gator spirit. You may not wear hats. Ms. Neely will be tutoring today and tomorrow this week. She is available for ACT tutoring and helping students complete the FAFSA. Attention students 14 and up...there is a volunteer opportunity at USA Childrens and Womens Hospital. The application and detailed information are available online at usahealthsystem/teen-program . It is a great program for those interest in the medical field. Volunteers are required to commit to 4 hours a week for 8 weeks. The 2014 Winter Formal will be held on Saturday, February 15 from 8-11 in the main gym. This dance is only for 9th-12th grade students. Dress is long formal dresses for girls and suit and tie for boys. Tickets will be pre-sold for $15 in Mrs. Millers room starting February 3 and $20 at the door. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Miller or Mrs. Roe. Attention all 7th through 11th grade girls interested in trying out for cheerleading and any 10th or 11th grade student interested in trying out to be the Gator next year: There will be an information meeting about tryouts on Tuesday, February 4 at 6:00 PM in the Satsuma High School library. At this meeting you will receive all of the information and forms regarding tryouts. Please make plans to attend with a parent or guardian. Seniors who purchased a senior ad need to have all graphics in to Mrs. deGraaf by Jan. 27. Anyone interested in serving on the Relay for Life team for SHS should sign up on the outside of Mrs. Bridget Shadys classroom door. All students grades 7-12 are encouraged to participate. Students now is the time to begin the Free Application for Student Aid. Students interested in attending a post-secondary school must complete the FAFSA electronically in order to apply for federal and state financial aid. Eligibility for aid is based on your familys EFC (Estimated Family Contribution). The University of Mobile is having an official college visit day on Jan. 31st. All high school students who attend the visit day will be given a $2000 scholarship. If you are interested in visiting, sign up at umobile.edu/visitcampus or call 251-442-2222. Please see Mrs. Smith to pick up information on the College Counts Scholarship. This scholarship is for any student that will attend a college in the state of Alabama. The application deadline is March 7, 2014. The Presidential Scholarship and the POW WOW Leadership Scholarship for Faulkner State is now available for any interested Senior. Please see Mrs. Smith for copies of the applications. The deadline to apply is March 1st. Austal is holding numerous job fairs. Please see Mrs. Smith for a list of the locations. They are also accepting applications for their apprentice program. The only day they will accept applications is January 27th. Please see Mrs. Smith for additional information. Mrs. Smith has applications for a scholarship awarded by New Horizons Credit Union. You must be a member to be eligible for the scholarship. If you participated in a DIXIE YOUTH BASEBALL (years 12 and younger) franchised league, there is a scholarship available for eligible seniors to complete. Please see Mrs. Smith for information. The Alabama Lions Organization has a scholarship available for qualified applicants. One criteria is a 22 composite score on the ACT. Please see Mrs. Smith for additional information. There is a Repayable Scholarship Program opportunity available through the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Fund. The scholarship is a no-interest loan that must be repaid after college graduation. See Mrs. A. Smith for additional information. Spring Hill College is hosting a free FAFSA Workshop for student and/or parents. The workshops are Saturday, Jan. 25th and Thursday, Feb. 6th.
