Announcing the date of the 2013 of the Festival of the Fungus. Saturday, October 26, 2013. Activities: September 19, 1- 3 PM - One week BEFORE the Festival, we will present an educational program taught by Maggie Rogers, from Oregon Mycology Society – "Mushroom basics, learning how to identify mushrooms". This will be a course for beginners to learn the parts of a mushroom how to use mushroom books and a bit of science and habitat. In the Flora Room at the Estacada Public Library. This class is limited to 20 students. This class will fill up fast so I suggest you sign up early. Day of the Festival Activities: Saturday, October 26 Estacada Festival of the Fungus Foray led by Steve Schmidt. We will search the forest up the Clackamas River outside Estacada. This will take place in the morning before the ID clinic. Limit 20 participants. The Foray filled fast last year and early signup is a good idea for this one also. ID clinic, Saturday October 26, 12:00 - 4:00 – Jake Hulbert will conduct an ID clinic from noon to four at the Estacada City Hall. Anyone can bring in any fungus they find and Jake will tell you what it is. Art Show- Artist will get display their mushroom related art work at the Estacada City Hall. If you have art or know an artist let them know about this. This is an open show and all family friendly art is welcome. It can be for sale or display (NFS). Sign up to have your property surveyed for Truffles by a professional Truffle Hunter with talented truffle sniffing dogs. – meet Kelly Slocum, Canine trainer and handler from the Canine Scent Institute/Northwest Truffle Dogs. Kelly will be bringing shelter dogs from the Humane Society who have been trained to find truffles. They will be at the Estacada City Hall on Saturday, October 26. Adopt a dog with a talent. Why not? So far The Harmony Baking Company will offer wild mushroom dishes during the festival. Several other restaurants will be participating this year, but the final list will be available next week. I personally ate at all the restaurants last year and had 6 fabulous meals.
