Annual Awards Night Neil Maxwell highlighted some achievements from 2013/14: o Team and individual performances. o SCG XI and their two International Tours – UK and Hong Kong. o Special thanks to the SC & SG Trust – CEO Jamie Barkley and his Trustee’s. o Thanks our valued Sponsors – ACU, JCB, Abbas & his wonderful team at Triforce Sports, RESI Home Loans, ANJ Australia, J & J Robertson, PROTON Australia, Cricket NSW, Cricket Australia, Watershed Wines, Mercato E Cucina and finally our Charity partner Royal Far West o Thanks to Matthew Grice, Simon Katich & Alyssa Healy for the role they played as Club Captains. o Congratulations to our Representative players including – Southern Stars, Sixers, NSW, Breakers and NSW 2nd XI, Junior Blues players. o Thanks especially to our current Board Members, Coaches, Administrators, players and volunteers. Everyone in our Club has done a wonderful job and we say thanks. Mr Rodney Cavalier AO: Rodney spoke about the overall season and the SCG XI growth Special presentations to: Our three World Champions o Alyssa Healy, Erin Osborne & Ellyse Perry Retiring Captain & 200 games - Tim Sparke o Tim has amassed over 7000 runs for the Club with eleven centuries. Tim has played for NSW 2nd XI and has been a wonderful and well respected leader for the past three seasons. Retiring Head Coach - Richard Burton o Richard is a life Member of our Club, Richard has been our First Grade Captain, Richard has been our Head Coach, Richard scored over 4000 runs for the Club and took over 400 wickets but more importantly he is a true gentleman. NSW Sheffield Shield debutant – Manjot Singh o Manjot Singh has worked his way from our Green Shield Squad to play for NSW in the Sheffield Shield Competition. 200 First Grade games – Dan Smith o Dan has scored over 8200 grade runs in first grade with an average of 35.01 and has a highest score of 160. He has also scored 17 centuries, 29 half centuries and on top of the runs, he has nearly 300 dismissal’s behind the stumps. Also please join with me in congratulating Dan on his appointment as First Grade Captain next season. Retiring Club Captain – Matthew Grice o Matthew has been a rock over the past five years in the role of Club Captain. During this time he has won a premiership and played in another Grand Final. He is truly a wonderful leader of men. o Matthew will still continue to play which is great for the younger players in our lower grades. Creer Cup Premiership – Jake Weragoda o Our Club took back control of the 6th Grade Program this year and with a mixture of youth and experience, we were able to bring home the Premiership. Finally, Rodney noted that it is worth mentioning Belinda Clarke who was recently awarded Hall of Fame status for her services to Australian Cricket – our first ever Hall of fame inductee. 2013/14 Roll of Honour Brian Lulham Volunteer of the year award – Awarded to the Best volunteer for the entire season Presented by Brian Lulham The winner of this award has been instrumental in supporting the Club off the field. Combined with being a proud Dad, Peter is also a team scorer, a Team Manager a team mentor and our account manager for My Cricket. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Peter Rashleigh Bill Donaldson Memorial Trophy – Best Trainer in the Club Presented by Brian Lulham The winner of this award has had a breakthrough season. There is no better example of the old saying, “the harder I trained, the luckier I became”. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Sam Edwards SCG XI Player of the Year Presented by Rodney Cavalier The winner of this award was one of only 3 tourists to back up from the UK tour and go to Hong Kong with the SCG XI. On the UK Tour, he was awarded the Players player and was the leading wicket taker for the tour. He is a former Tiger legend who also played for NSW, a great team man and always contributes on and off the field. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Andrew Jones SCG XI – Lisa Polonis - Spirit of Cricket Award Presented by Rodney Cavalier This is always a tough choice as so many SCG XI Members are worthy of this award. However tonight’s winner stood out despite an injury laden season. When fit he is a reliable opening batsmen - and along with Philip Booth they are the SCG XIs most successful opening pair. When he is not available to play, he umpires without fear or favour. When he is not available to play or umpire, he turns up and presents the Lisa Polonis Award. He is always positive, smiling and supportive of his fellow players. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • John Walker Colahan/Mitchell Trophy – Club Person of the Year Women’s Club Presented by Rodney Cavalier The winners of this award have been players and contributors on and off the field. Always first to training and last to leave combined with having infectous personalities and strong managerial skills. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Darien Dubb – Lynch & Lucy Peek Ed McCardell Memorial Trophy – Club person of the Year Men’s Club Presented by Rodney Cavalier The winner of this award was new to the Club this season. From the very first session, he was putting his hand up to help the coaches, help other players and assist club management. One area he really excelled in was doing covers!! He was always the first to offer his help even when his team was not even playing at the ground!! An all round good cricketer as well as a great clubman. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Christian Finn Andrew Jones Trophy – Green Shield Player of the year Presented by Andrew Jones – Gear donated by Triforce Sports The winners of this award have really embedded themselves into the Club. Both players worked extremely hard with the grade teams and then were able to lead from the front in the Green Shield competition. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Adrian Rous & Sam Cividin Athol Aria Memorial Trophy – Poidevin Gray Shield player of the year Presented by Jason Penrose The winners of this award have produced wonderful results over the PGs season. Unfortunately neither of them are here with us tonight – One is at University and the other is in the UK. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Matthew Pasternatsky & Ryan Felsch Greg Hayne Trophy – 6th Grade Player of the Year – presented by Presented by Jason Penrose The winner of this award started bowling as a net bowler whilst his son trained. A few of the senior players who had faced him said we needed to get him playing grade. The rest is history with him taking 36 wickets this season in 5th and 6th grade as well as being a great clubman. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Steve Rous Colin Thomlinson Memorial Trophy – 5th Grade player of the year – Men’s Presented by Jason Penrose The winner of this award has been floating around grade for a few seasons and has always had the potential to move up the grades. This season he trained as hard as he could and the rewards followed moving on from 5th grade into 4th grade. Next year he has already been pencilled in for higher honours. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Sam Edwards The WC Bull Memorial Trophy – 4th Grade player of the year – Men’s Presented by Jason Penrose The winner of this award joined our club from Shires the year before and settled in well. He scored over 400 runs with a century thrown in for good measure. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Jack Thomas HV Todd Tanner Memorial Trophy – 3rd Grade player of the year – Men’s Presented by Jason Penrose The winner of this award has really come of age with the bat and the ball over the past three seasons. Watch out for him to move into first grade over the next 12 months. Matt Scored over 300 runs and took 20 wickets. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Matthew Pasternatsky Jim Reynolds Trophy – Second Grade Player of the Year – Women’s Presented by Alyssa Healy The winner of this awards has been a tower of strength with the bat, ball and gloves. Still only 16 years old, Angel played 1st grade as well this season and held her own. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Angel Lea The Belinda Clark Award Players Player – Womens Club Presented by Alyssa Healy The winners of these awards have been solid contributors on and off the field. Both girls were willing to go beyond the call of duty for their teams. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: 1st grade – Kate Jackson 2nd and 3rd grade is together– Emma Coughlan-Ryan Cliff Winning Trophy – 2nd Grade player of the year – Men’s Presented by Neil Maxwell The winner of this award joined our club this year and also took on a coaching role. As well as playing and coaching, he became a mentor for so many of our players. He scored over 600 runs with two centuries and fought his way into 1st grade. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Ash Squire The Fred Bennett Memorial Trophy – 1st Grade player of the year – Men’s Presented by Neil Maxwell The winner of this awards has been a mainstay in the team for the past ten seasons. He has scored 11 centuries including one this season. He has consistently scored over 700 runs over this period including 600 this season. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Tim Sparke The Neil Maxwell Players Player Award – Men’s Presented by Neil Maxwell The winner of this award has worked as hard as any other player in the Club. After a disastrous season in 2012/13, he packed his bags and went to Western Australia for eight weeks as well as going to India for a week to improve his game. The results followed and he worked his way from second grade to first grade with a top score of 197. He was also our PGs Skipper. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Harry Dalton Kerry Marshall Award – 1st Grade player of the year Women’s Presented by Richard Burton The winner of this award has shown her commitment to the club over the years, often juggling her career to make games. She consistently turns in great performances week in week out, with both bat and ball - an all round great club person to have both off and on the field. Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together for: • Nicole Goodwin The Archie Jackson Memorial Trophy Player of the year – Men’s Presented by Richard Burton The winner of this award lead from the front all season on and off the field and will be a huge loss to the Club next season.
