Another Barry Murphy story for you.... I went to Vienna fields this morning to chit chat and to see how their 9 and 10 All Star tournament was going. While I was there I noticed that an umpire was starting a game by himself so I volunteered to jump in and help umpire the bases for him. A team from Ohio was batting and had a kid on third base. After this boy led off, he was walking back to third when the throw from the catcher skipped past the pitcher. The third base coach pulled the runner by the arm and shoved him towards home plate, which you can not do. After the play stopped I talked to the plate umpire and called the runner out. Next thing you know the coach came running up to me and got in my face arguing while parents started screaming at me. One dad kept yelling and calling me and the other ump a cheater so I tried to explain the rule to him, but he threatened to come over the fence so I ejected him (which of course he predictably told me to "make him" leave). I finally got him to leave but he never did understand the call, thinking I called the kid out for stealing home. This has to be a record.... having to toss a parent before even one half inning had been played, lol.
