Another Hoboken First In The Game Of Baseball . I once had the honor of driving Maria Pepe in a classic convertible Pontiac Grand Am , belonging to good friend Robert Castellano , during the administration of Mayor Anthony Russo , in celebration of Hoboken the Birthplace of Baseball parade. While driving Maria Pepe , up Washington Street Maria , sitting waving and at times standing while holding one hand on my shoulder while waving to a loud and admiring crowd with the other .Maria Pepe was in fine company this day with a host of legendary Major League Baseball players who were also in attendance .Yogi Berra , Phil Rizzuto , and Leo Lanzetti of the Saint Louis Cardinals just to mention a few . Yet with all the notable baseball greats present it was Maria Pepe , the people in town would really show their love to . On several occasions I had to slow just about to a stop , as crowds would break the police barriers and rush towards the vehicle screaming her name , and wanting to shake her hand . Another Hoboken First in the game of baseball .Maria Pepe , would be the first girl , to play on a Little League Baseball Team here in America the year 1971 . With the support and assistance of her Little League coach Mr Jim Farina , today Hoboken`s Municipal Clerk , {see video below }
