Another REALLY early one. This Walloon style Horsemans saber dates roughly to 1700-1730. The grip has been replaced by a wooden American Style version, typical of Continental Horseman Swords. The heart shaped guard would have had pierced metal inserts, long removed or lost. This is typical of mounted swords carried by the Continentals during the American Revolution, and there are several swords like this one known. The iron pommel may date to later, and is unlike others in the pattern. Notice the thumb ring in the second photo. This Horseman is MASSIVE, with a 36 inch blade. Nice Rev War vet!
