Another SCOTUS decision on corporate personhood ala Citizens - TopicsExpress

Another SCOTUS decision on corporate personhood ala Citizens United is going to come down this week. I dont know if Petitions help... but they probably dont hurt. The Supreme Court is on the brink of doubling down on the Citizens United decisions shameful legacy - THEY WILL MAKE A DECISION NEXT WEEK. If the Court sides with the plaintiff in McCutcheon v. FEC and overturns aggregate contribution limits, a single individual could spend as much as $3.6 MILLION on a single election - enough to buy the attention of the President and every single member of Congress. Our current limits dont threaten anyones speech; todays donors can give over $120,000 more than twice what the average American family makes in a year. McCutcheon would add to a string of rulings that have enabled a few wealthy super donors to buy as much influence as they can afford - shutting the rest of us out in the process. A bad decision in McCutcheon would put the Courts seal of approval on a system of legalized bribery. This case is a bad sequel to Citizens United. In that case, the Court lifted the floodgates to unlimited spending by corporations and wealthy individuals to influence elections, paving the way to Super PACs and other independent spending. The rush of outside, anonymous money made in the 2012 presidential race was the most expensive in history. McCutcheon is about contributions that go directly to candidates and political parties. PLEASE SIGN PETITION! This is your avenue to reversal of these destructive laws. TAKE ACTION - NOW! GET UP! WE CAN TO THIS! Follow the link below to the Common Cause website and sign the Petition to overturn Citizens United!
