Another boondocking adventure, this time at Baker lake, WA, just me and my two loves (my Roadtrek and my canoe). I drove out Friday evening and camped at a nice view spot next to the road to Baker hot springs. Saturday morning I drove down the Lower Sandy road to the lake and someone was just leaving one of the beautiful free campsites, so I nabbed it. I spent the day canoeing north to Boulder creek, and crossing the lake to the eastern shore, and some exploring of a little bay near the campground. 6 hours in the boat, 8 miles paddled. Sunday I canoed south to beautiful Horseshoe cove, a real gem. Another free night at my lakeside campsite. Monday I drove down to Horseshoe cove and explored south from there, and then drove home. The color of the water, the mountains looming over the lake, the seclusion of the little coves and inlets, made the paddling almost magical. The lack of wind also helped, large lakes can go from serene to extreme when the wind kicks up. I had just enough breeze for comfort, nothing more.
