Another day, another country. No, today we did 3 countries: Croatia, Slovenia and Italy. The day started with the usual bulletin, but this one confirmed what we had really expected. That today would be the last day of competition until we get to Wales. We did 5 stages (actually one repeated twice and the other repeated once) in the spectacular mountains above Rijeka. It was drizzly most of the time but vision was ok. Id found the problem with the demister (an activator had slipped off) so my screen stayed clear. The first was 11km and twisty as always. The sting was that a few kilometres in the road suddenly became very slippery indeed. No obvious change to the look of the road to give any clues. When we ran it the second time it was just the same. Wierd. Between stages, we hopped on and off the tollways. Sometimes they charged us sometimes they didnt. No idea why. The other stage (that we did 3 times) started like the first, then had some faster uphill section and finally deteriorated into a narrow cart track. This stage ran through some villages which added a certain spice to it. The stage claimed 2 competitors who slid off the road plus another who got lost on the freeway. It also had to be stopped running twice to let trains through. After this we headed east. After a quick border crossing, they ripped us off by 15€ for a vignette for the privilege of driving about 30 km until Italy. Then a big (almost 400km) transport on tollways until Brescia. I got the yawns about half way and had to stop for an emergency ice cream. So thats all until Wales. If I post anything before then it will just be touristy stuff.
