Another day, another manufactured controversy... .. by the political leaders who think they can pass out patriotism certificates Telangana The TRS government decided to appoint Indian tennis star Sania Mirza as the brand ambassador for the new state of Telangana. BJP leader in the state K Laxman took offense because Mirza is Pakistans daughter in law. Well Mr Laxman, here are a few recent political developments that require your attention. Indias newly elected PM Narendra Modi, invited the Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif for his swearing-in ceremony. There have since been exchanges of gifts and various sentimental messages on both sides. All this was played out while Indian soldiers were being killed at the borders and the family of one such martyr actually made a plea against the invitation to the Pak PM. Did you question Modis level of patriotism then ? Sania Mirza, who has won many accolades for India on the tennis court, is today put in the position where she has to state her history from birth through childhood to prove her credibility. In doing so, this was a statement she made “It hurts me that so much precious time of prominent politicians and the media is being wasted on a petty issue of my being appointed the Brand Ambassador of my State of Telangana. I sincerely believe that this precious time should be spent on solving the more urgent issues of our State and country. Do you think Mr Laxman, it would be possible to heed this and in fact address an issue that is actually relevant to the electorate (for example the increasing rate of violent crimes against women if you were paying attention to all the protests that have been spurring up across India ) than maunfacturing one to win votes by dividing people? Sania Mirza may be Pakistans daughter-in-law, but she will remain Indias daughter.
