Another dog has died from heatstroke, please everyone keep your dogs in the cool especially those with shorter muzzles, older or younger dogs, overweight - any that are in any way vulnerable. But even the healthiest dogs will be affected by this weather. Dogs dont sweat, the only way a dog can lose heat is through panting. Be aware of the symptoms of heatstroke and cool them down ASAP and get to a vet. As in this case the damage can be irreversible. Is your dog dazed, sluggish or unresponsive? Check gums, tongue and eye rims - are they red? Are they panting a lot? Possibly even vomiting or having the runs? Collapse and seizure and then coma precede death. Dont risk your dog, skip long walks on hot days and instead play games in the morning and evening when it may be cooler. Invest in cool coats, paddling pools, water sprays. Put a towel or their bed in the freezer. Keep water bowls topped up and refreshed. Please stay safe this summer.
