Another excerpt from A dead horse named Caleb: Charlie had once driven his truck through Old Man Hinkerbottom’s house because he owed their father a hundred dollars and refused to pay. That little stunt had cost Charlie more money, then the owed amount for his insurance premium and six months in county, but according to Charlie it was worth it. “It’s the principal of the dang thing,” Charlie had stubbornly argued to the judge, a factor the man had not taken into consideration when sentencing. The memory bought a smile to Hank’s lips, and he chuckled quietly to himself.
