Another exciting assemblage of new members to introduce to everyone! Mostly photographers being added to the group this time around, which is only appropriate seeing as this is an actual photo group. A few of us have already had the pleasure of meeting Alex Cohen during our little gathering at the squirrel monkey feeding last Saturday. He is a prolific photographer with many friends who are on staff at both the Zoo and Safari Park. He is one well-connected photographer. Checking out Susan Harrisons photos here on Facebook shows just how much she loves taking pictures at the Zoo when shes in town. Its safe to say she has many to choose from that she can share with us. It doesnt hurt that she and I are alumni from the same high school, with just five years separating our graduating classes. (Im older if anyone is curious.) Dona Tracys wildlife photography, including those from the Zoo and Safari Park, is nothing short of stunning. This one of Imani and Joanne is definitely one of my favorites: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152205939052606&set=pb.717502605.-2207520000.1408227177.&type=3&theater Katalina Prince is a passionate photographer who, lucky for us, had an encounter and chat with Darrell up at the Safari Park. Thanks for the great recommendation, Darrell! The wifely half of a photographing couple, Sara Applegate visits the Zoo as often as most of us do, which means she will have plenty of photos she can share with us. We are now actively in the process of trying to recruit her husband as well. Linda Byerline, friend to Marcia, was enjoying taking photos at the Zoo the other day when a volunteer she was chatting with mentioned and recommended the group to her. I need to find and thank this volunteer. Im pleased to be adding Rebekah Riedel, who is temporarily away on a wildlife internship studying zoo medicine (how cool!), as an interim honorary member, a new category. Honorary because she cant be near the animals that mean so much to her, and interim because she will be returning to San Diego in the not too distant future when she will become a full-fledged group member, available for meetups and a button. I really look forward to her return so she can once again spend time with all the animals that, as she puts it, are very special to me. Sarah Marez is not only one of the friendly, green-shirted sharpshooters at the Zoo, but she does her own personal photography as well. I can just see the green screen group photo possibilities now. Adding yet another amazing Tour Bus operator from the Zoo, Marjorie Oslie comes highly recommended as both a driver and as a person. She told me so herself. (Kidding. The recommendation came from another one of our members. Thanks, Denise!) Welcome, everyone! Thanks for being part of the group! We look forward to the many images, comments, questions and stories that you will be sharing with us. And in joining us, you have chosen wisely.
