Another hostage allegedly killed by ISIS and this time it was someone who converted/reverted to Islam. The story of ex-US Army and humanitarian aid worker Abdul Rahman (Peter) Kassig is a testament of the strength of a true believer. I applaud the bravery of Mr. Kassig in becoming a Muslim but NOT accepting ISIS as any legitimate representation of Islam. He sacrificed his life to stand up for what is right. May Allah Bless him and grant him the highest reward for his bravery and sacrifice. So far in Calgary, we have done 3 huge protest against ISIS this summer. We have held seminars, conferences, working meeting as well as working so closely with RCMP and Calgary Police to stop this dangerous phenomenon of some of our boys getting attracted to foreign wars. Our imams have become the first line of defense in ensuring that if any violence related conversation is overheard in any mosque – the right authorities are instantly informed. And I think it is finally working because these cases have dropped! However we see these young boys usually have a long history of family, drug and depression problem that lead them to seek dangerous escapes. Rather than relying completely on law-enforcement, we need to strengthen social institutions to prevent this from happening, especially train our imams and mentors with tools to address these issues. nytimes/2014/11/17/world/middleeast/peter-kassig-isis-video-execution.html
