Another interesting co-inky-dink... I was part of the initial planning committee for Rocky Mountain Furty Convention in 2005. Two factions developed in this time: one wanted an outdoorsy, mountain adventure-style con, the other wanted a downtown city-center con. The latter faction won, placing RMFC in the heart of downtown Denver. I was part of the former. Me and my cohorts had a vision for what was then a truly unique experience, allowing us to showcase the wonder that is the Colorado Rockies without giving up the comforts of a modern convention hotel venue. We found some great spaces and activities in Estes Park that were affordable and accessible. Our opponents argued that a good portion of people wouldnt come because of the 90-minute commute from the airport, and not everyone has pine sap in their veins. We figured it would be worthwhile; besides, we were going for quality of the experience over quantity in numbers. We were voted down and another cookie-cutter con was born...not that we were bitter, or anything... .> As it turns out, that vision came true this year, 1300 miles away in Pittsburgh, with this years Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend. It had all the elements the outdoor faction was looking for, sans being surrounded by breathtaking 14-ers. It was an excellent blend of outdoor fun with indoor accommodations. North Park Lodge was perfect for events, and we had access to a regular hotel (not campsites). Its interesting how the Rocky Mountain Furcon dream came true, eight years later and in a completely different part of the country.
