Another long ass day. Took Hank to the vet today. She is 99% sure, its not any kind of neurologic illness, his neuro test was good, no fever, normal manure, etc. We took a series of digital images of his neck to rule out Wobblers or a Cervical Fracture. There is one small spot around C5 that could be of concern. Since they dont look at neck images often, they are sending them images to the specialist who will review them and issue a report. The other possiblity or could be combined with Wobblers or a fracture, is that.......Hes in too good of condition for his age and growing too fast. No more Alfalfa Cubes (which were for his mom, but he ate some too) and no more Dynasty XT Grow. He needs to go on a lower protein, lower calorie feed, but one that is still nutritionally well supplemented with vitamins and minerals. She basically told me that shed like to see him looking more like crap :/ . Im having a hard time with this, but Ill back him off the protein while we are figuring out what is wrong with him. In the meantime, he is on a Dexamethasone taper, and the specialist will review his films. We have an appointment for Lovey and Charlie on Tuesday, and should have an answer from the specialist by then. If all goes well and hes not to stressed or getting worse, they want him weaned too. Val is a really hard keeper and I cant back her off her feed without her looking really poor. So if I sock the feed to her like she needs (especially nursing), and cut his feed back, hed just nurse more. So looks like my plan to wean him in the spring is being thwarted.
