Another nail in the coffin of Holton Road. The shock announcement that Burtons of Holton Road is closing down for good now means that we have no menswear /bespoke outfitter in Barry. Our Councillors continue to tell us of the wonderful regeneration plans for Holton Rd. These are plans that are unfortunately just pipe dreams. In truth many big names look at Barry and say thanks but no thanks. When Clinton Cards went into administration the company that bought them out did a study of all The shops once owned by Clintons and they looked at the Barry branch and said they did not wish to invest their money in a degraded town such as Barry so they closed that branch and it is still not occupied by a new business. All the big names are not attracted to Holton road due to the sheer lunacy of its layout with huge parking problems and a bus route that has a bus stop smack in the middle of the road which consistently holds up the flow of traffic which is also a major risk to emergency vehicles. Until The Vale Council put someone with an IQ above 5 in charge of the regeneration of our town will lose more businesss like Burtons. Who will be next to deal a hammer blow to our once proud town, the biggest town in Wales is falling apart at the seams.
