Another of Jennies family home movies... reminding us of a simpler time when we didnt know the dangers of radioactive fallout. Yes, this is a video shot from Las Vegas, showing one of the roughly 265 nuclear tests that were conducted within 65 miles of the city and touted as a tourist attraction by the chamber of commerce. Until I saw this video in with Jennies familys other videos, I had never realized just how close the tests were... and until I looked it up, I had no idea of how many there were. At the end, youll see a flight of aircraft (maybe my military buddies will take it as an exercise to identify them). How much you want to bet that the planes flew right though the radioactive cloud as part of their training in how to deal with nuclear war? Do you think the atomic tests claimed more victims than agent orange? Every once in a while I try to tell my students just how real the threat of nuclear war was when I was growing up. I dont think they believe me...
