Another of our songs. Somehow, this one has not been getting as much publicity as either Oh Land Of Afrika or Eleggua Meet Mama Mzazi but it is still a very lovely song. Upbeat, but just as intense as our other songs. The hyena is said to have been around for close to eight thousand years (not in its present form) and Ifa has been around for about the same time. This is what binds us together, humans and hyenas. Santeria came about during the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade. After being taken into slavery, we were not allowed to participate in our native religions, so what we did to fool the plantation owners, was adopt symbols f their religion (christianity) and use them in our ceremonies. However these symbols (eg, the cross, and symbols of so-called saints) had absolutely nothing to do with christianity they way we used them. The statues of so-called saints were used to represent The Orishas of our native and much longer established, religions. Thus Santeria was born despite constant and meticulous attempts to eradicate our original religion(s). Hujambo Orishas, asante kwa upendo na ushauri wako.
