Another one of our Ohio Valley Quilters Guild members, Judy - TopicsExpress

Another one of our Ohio Valley Quilters Guild members, Judy Voluse, presented this lovely Quilt of Valor to Mr. George Altman. Mr. Altman served in the US Army and deployed during WWII. Mr. Altman was assigned to the First Infantry Division also know as The Big Red One. This division was credited with pushing the Germans back from North Africa. In 1943, Mr. Altman and his division was ordered to secure a mountain pass and met heavy resistance from the Germans. Seventy-nine of the 200 US Troops were killed and several men were captured, including Mr. Altman. He spent two and a half years as a prisoner of war in various German camps until he was liberated at the end of the way. Amazing story Mr. Altman, thank you for your service!
